THE RESIDENTS - Bunny Boy

LIVE in Heidelberg, Karlstorbahnhof 2008/11/22

Before the show

Karlstorbahnhof, as the name says, is a former train station which is now used for concerts, theatre an such. The RESIDENTS were to play in the "big hall", which (if i counted right) offers some 360 to 380 seats. Everyone was free in choice of seat, and because i was early before doors opened, i placed myself in the center of the first row. :)

The stage is quite small, also. So there was no place for the second "tent", under which the band is usually placed at the Bunny Boy show ... they were placed on the left side of the stage, almost sitting / standing one behind the other -- but they were still good to be seen.

Part I

When the show starts, Bunny Boy enters the stage, himself covered in a blanket ... I've got a story to tell ...

The RESIDENTS are dressed in glittering smokings, with black facemasks and little bunny-ears.

The Bunny Boy is searching his brother Harvey, if you've got any hints, please send him an e-mail!

Of course Bunny Boy loves bunnies ... he's got the rabbit habit.

At the first peak of tension, Bunny Boy spins around and we can see his blanket in full for the first (and last) time, just before ...

... he drops the blanket.

Intermission

No intermission of a RESIDENTS performance without intermission music ... and the break comes to it's end, the RESIDENTS show up again, picking up their instruments -- then they begin playing intermission music, slightly changing into the 2nd part.

Part II

Bunny Boy is on stage again, now dressed in a bunny costume ... ever seen a man-sized bunny going wild? (I really do love this very photo.)

I know what you're thinking ... it's because of this bunny costume ... ha? -- But ..., but i'm not crazy!

I have asked the Residents, and they have allowed me to take a little nap while you see one more of those videos. -- Gosh! How cute is that? :)

Bunny Boy shows us the newspaper cuts, which Harvey collected.

Yet another video from the Bunny Boy's secret room ... (remember how he complained about the fake secret room the RESIDENTS have put on stage?)

This one is not even a bunny! It's a teddy bear dressed in a bunny costume!

Very effectful lighting -- as we know and love it when the RESIDENTS perform live ...

... turning into menacing as it comes to "Blood On The Bunny".

Bunny Boy picks up his blanket to cover himself under it again. Then he takes the large toy bunny and goes out of the door ...

Standing behind the door the show seems to have come to it's end. The lights go down, the music stops, Bunny Boy disaappears.

Not quite!

Under big applause, light go on again and the band enters the front stage for the first time. ... guess who's peeking through the door?

We hear a last song ("My Window" which i first thought to be something like a "Secret Room" reprise), yes it's really touching one's heart!

Bye bye

The Residents and Bunny Boy line up for a final, long applause. A nice and funny tune is played from tape, they leave the stage.

Thanks a lot for another great show, Residents! Wish you good luck and a lot of fun for the rest of the tour.

After the show

A close shot of the toy bunnies ... can you tell the teddy bear?

I was told that the picture on the cable-box (see the 2nd photo from top) shows the late Frank Lawrence "Lefty" Rosenthal in his early years.

On the white guitar we can read "MY SHOES HURT!" ... i don't know if this has a special meaning to anyone.

Intermission

The intermission music for Bunny Boy is entitled "Tribute To Past Tours", about 15 1/2 minutes long and contains pieces of elder RESIDENTS' songs. Those who have the dog tag can download the music from the web.

Questions left

Of course we all still wonder where Harvey is, the show offered no solution to this riddle. Or (my favourite theory) is it the Bunny Boy himself? -- Remember what Harvey daughter told about BB being there at Greece when the accident happened and 'bout his lack of memory ("I can't do this, this is too weird!").

Has anyone got the european (german) set of songs *and* videos for the show?

And whatever happened to Vileness Fats?

Shooting photos at concerts

Using camera's flashlight is reckless and annoying -- not only to the other fans in the audience but to those perfoming on stage, too. Switch off the flashlight, turn down the display-brightness as far as possible. Thank you very much.

All of the photos shown above were taken without flashlight, except the two in the "Before the show" section, the first one in "Intermission" and those "After the show". I don't like messing around with my camera, 'cos i go to The RESIDENTS to enjoy the great show.
